Nordic-Russian University Network for Successful Cooperation in Higher Environmental Education
The first meeting in the framework of the project has lead in Russian State Hydrometeorological University on 30th of October 2008.The Project aim is bridging Universities from North-West Russia and Nordic countries together for creation of University Network aimed at:
• Establishing sustainable links and strengthening international partnership with the Universities in the neighboring countries in the field of environmental education;
• Exchanging ideas, best practices and experiences on joint educational programmes and related problems such as educational quality assurance, ECTS introduction and mutual recognition etc.;
• Enhancing academic mobility between North-West Russia and Nordic countries;
• Development of e-learning as an effective tool for environmental education

The Project Period:
15 April 2008 – 1 April 2009.
There exists a global need for experts having multidisciplinary education in environmental issues. Furthermore, as preliminary needs analysis showed, some attempts on development of joint educational programmes in Natural and Environmental Sciences taught in English are made by some Nordic and Russian Universities (for example, University of Helsinki, Russian State Hydrometeorological University, Arhangelsk State Technical University, St.Petersburg State Polytechnic University, University of Joensuu and Kuopio University etc).
Establishment and development of interuniversity cooperation, especially with respect to joint curricula, academic mobility and joint educational programmes are the effective tools for providing attractiveness of Nordic and Russian universities. Of importance for the development of state-of-the-art curricula and lecture courses is cooperation with research institutes having solid expertise in environmental research and involved in educational activities. Having joined the Bolongna Process Russia has undertaken obligations of integration into the European space of higher education. However there are still a lot of problems related to implementation of the Bologna process principles in Russia.
This project is a fine opportunity for high educational institutions of the North-West Russia to acquire necessary knowledge and experience on implementation of the Bologna principles in Russia.
It is also extremely important to have common information space through the project web-site for sharing experience, teaching materials and scientific articles when appropriate, for seminar and workshop announcements, information on educational and training environmental and related courses available at different universities.
he project has many effects in the society, including the deepening of the cooperation in environmental education between the Nordic countries and North-West Russia, the idea of lifelong learning, and enhancing student and teacher mobility.
